A. ID 26-0757 Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, approving and authorizing the City Manager to execute a lease agreement with the Denton City Federation of Women's Clubs for approximately 18,000 square feet of land located at 610 Oakland Street, situated in Quakertown Park, for a twenty year initial term with two ten year renewals; and providing an effective date.
Dear Members of the Denton City Council,
I am writing to express my support for the lease renewal between the City of Denton and the Denton City Federation of Women's Clubs (Item 6.A on May 5 agenda, ID 26-0757).
The Woman's Club plays an important role in our community by providing a space for service, connection, and civic engagement. Through its programs, events, and volunteer efforts, the Club brings people together and supports initiatives that benefit residents across generations.

I am writing in support of continuing the lease with the Women’s Club. I have personally benefited from the friendships, service opportunities, and sense of community it provides, and I know many others have as well.
The Women’s Club contributes so much to our community through volunteer work, events, and outreach. It is a valuable organization that positively impacts many people in our city.
I am as a writing to express my support for Item 6.A on the May 5 agenda, the lease renewal between the City of Denton and the Denton City Federation of Women’s Clubs. It is important to continue supporting the women of Denton and to honor the nearly 100-year partnership between City Council and the Women’s Club.
I support renewal of the lease for the Denton Woman’s club building. As long as I can remember, the facility has been used for wedding receptions, family friendly happenings, and cultural events. My mom, who was an original member of the Women’s interracial fellowship, has spent many years helping to care for the venue. The building has been an icon in the Denton community because of a century of the Federation’s and Ariel club’s loving care. We want to continue the partnership with the city.
I am in support of the city renewing the lease for the Women's Building "item A". Our doors are open to the community, and our mission is cultural enrichment for Denton residents. The lease renewal in front of you supports a working community asset — not a quiet building, an active one. I respectfully ask the Council to renew the lease on terms that let that programming continue.
The Women's Building provides many opportunities for the local community to come together (not just the women's clubs, but the entire community) - Breakfast with Santa, educational events, etc. Very importantly, it is one of the only (maybe the only) venue that provides an affordable option for events, reunions, wedding and quinceañera receptions, among others. I am in support of the city renewing this lease.
I urge you to support Item 6.A, the lease renewal with the Denton City Federation of Women's Clubs. For nearly a century, Denton women have built and maintained 610 Oakland as a place to mentor, empower, and lift up the women of this city — and through them, all of Denton. The Federation is also a willing partner in honoring Quakertown's history. Renewing this lease protects what already works. Please vote yes.
My name is Damon Logan and I am a descendant of John and Laura Logan who were residents of Quakertown. I am asking the council to vote No or to Table this for further discussion. Denton has made strides on acknowledging the horrific atrocities of Quakertown and trying to heal wounds that reverberate today. The Woman's building is on city land, but privately controlled on land that was once the Crawford Store. This sounds very convoluted and needs more discussion. The continued lease is wrong.
The Women's Club building has been maintained over the last 100 years by hard working women in the Denton community. It's been used for family celebrations, small businesses and non-profits to raise funds for the community. My family has also used the building many time. It's a real win win for Denton. It would be a real shame to lose the land for the building. I hope you will vote in support of providing a lease to City Federal. Thank you.
Since 2016 the WC “Fine Arts” venue has funneled upwards of $200,000 into Denton nonprofits with speakers like the gggrandson of Qananah Parker and a woman personally affected by Quakertown's move. Today at the WC, I - a blue eyed blonde - and a Black Dentonite mother/daughter out of Louisiana origin discussed Ancestry’s addictive app, my FW Black 6th cousin out of Louisiana, and our 1880's era Cherokee ancestors. You bet we exchanged contacts!
