A. CA24-0003a Hold a public hearing and consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton, Texas, adopting the Design Downtown Denton Plan and amending the Denton 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The Design Downtown Denton Plan has an approximate boundary line of Carroll Boulevard to the west, Eagle Drive to the south, Bell Avenue and Mingo Road to the east, and a northern boundary generally along College Street, Texas Street, Oakland Street, and University Drive, encompassing approximately 767 acres in the City of Denton, Denton County, Texas; and providing an effective date. The Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board recommended approval of the proposal (5-0). The motion was made by Commissioner Martin-Young and seconded by Commissioner Lichtenberg. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the proposal (6-0). The motion was made by Commissioner Villareal and seconded by Commissioner Cole.     I support this ordinance. Making pedestrian travel safer and easier benefits our community by encouraging continued growth of the universities that drive Denton's economy while also making travel safer for the children that are the community's future.

    I think this would be fantastic for our city - it would be attractive for residents and tourists alike. I love that it would increase biking and walking safety and I'm especially interested in the water fountains and bathrooms. I think it's very important to have those facilities available and would love to see them not just in the parks but on the square as well.
