ID 22-168 Consider approval of a resolution of the City of Denton supporting NuRock Development Partners, Inc.'s 9% housing tax credit application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for the proposed new construction of the Residences at Parkview to provide affordable rental housing; committing to provide fee reductions in an amount of $500.00; and providing an effective date.
The "low income" rents are too high.
While setting aside a limited number of apartments is somewhat helpful, the number of apartments that will be available is too low to warrant giving up the income to the city that those taxes provide. The number of units that week be available to families is negligible.
The city needs to take steps to encourage the building of single family homes, duplexes, etc. Denton also need to address the habitability of existing apartment complexes.
