C. ID 21-2738 Hold a public hearing to receive comments from the public regarding proposed redistricting and plans concerning proposed new boundaries for City of Denton councilmember districts, and provide staff direction regarding such plans.
I do not support Beck's redistricting plan. I DO support Plan D which provides a fair compromise for all the council asked for without changing Robson Ranch, which the residents do not want.
I oppose the redistricting. With a less than 8% population difference in districts, redistricting is not needed. If Plan B is accepted, I (and many citizens) will be assigned to a council member that we did not vote for and does not align with our vision of the City's future.
If redistricting is a must, Plan D appears to be the least disruptive, includes adding Denia neighborhood to District 3 as requested, and brings the deviation to less than 5%.
Councilman Beck's proposed map, Plan B, is the best of the available options in ensuring more Denton residents have the opportunity for fair representation on City Council. Plan B reflects communities of interest in our city, codifying them instead of dividing them. At a time when Denton voters have been cracked and diluted by redrawn Congressional maps and State House maps, we can be an exemplar of fair redistricting. I hope you will consider this as you consider supporting the Plan B maps.
I support Councilperson Beck's redistricting proposal, which values honest representation; Drawing maps as closely as we can to reflect shared communities of interest is crucial. Aligning our city council maps to reflect the affinity of interests between the majority of Robson residents and the majority of District 4 residents preserves Robson's representation while providing District 3 with a better opportunity of representation that reflects its residents' community interests.
I am in support of the Council updating the districts to both better match where the Denton population is now. Denton has undergone a lot of change in the past decade, and it does not make sense to keep the districts stuck in the past. How can we ensure that communities of interest are districted together? Communities like Southeast Denton, Denia, Pecan Creek, Westgate, and Vintage should not be split up or pulled away from similar communities.

This map is essential in ensuring all denton residents have an equal vote, I am in support of this.
I believe the map proposed by Councilman Beck is the best representation of our current communities.
I support the new redistricting as it more accurately represents our communities and ensures more fair voting and representation.
